    Labneh is great with Za’atar, or cucumbers, or olives (green or black), or mint leaves (fresh or dry), or scallions. A great olive oil is a must. I suggest making a “Aaroosah” by spreading the inside of a large, very thin Lebanese pita bread with Labneh, adding a drizzle of olive oil, and one of the above mentioned ingredients. You roll the bread into a wrap, and enjoy the best food on earth. Healthy and delicious!

    Just to be safe - The meat is not pre-cooked? The meat and rice filling is cooked at the same time with the leaves?

    • @maureenabood
      @maureenabood 2 месяца назад

      Hi! Great question--the meat is raw when added to the grapeleaves. They all cook at once in the pot.

    Why not fresh spinach?

    • @maureenabood
      @maureenabood 2 месяца назад

      Great question--I like to use frozen spinach because it is easier to squeeze out excess water and liquids from the spinach than with fresh. A drier spinach keeps the pastry from getting soggy.

      Not necessarily but it must look like the leaves shown here to be edible and tender. I have not seen that on anything but wild grape vines that do not bear much if any fruit.

I add a mixture of almonds and walnuts, but the ‘🇨🇾Cypriot’ way would be adding some freshly ground cinnamon to the nuts,not so much as to overpower the Baklava.
